Windsurfing: Pevensey Bay Wind Direction: E / NE Wind Stength: F3 Surf / Sea State: small swell, some chop, coasta Air Temperature: toasty Sea Temperature: okay Weather: sunny with wind Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Late afternoon session, making the best of a light easterly sea breeze
..... went for 10'5 initially with the 5.8m Poison, but as I had the 11'5 I
swapped over and gave that a test ride too. Ended up having a fun session,
on and off the plane, while the guys on 7.5m + freeride kit had binned it
as too gusty / shifty, and come in a beach or two downwind of launch point
too.
Summer suit, barefoot session, so should score well regardless, but was
surprised how easy the 11'5 eased onto the plane with a relatively small
rig, and when planing how much smaller it felt underfoot than it's actual
sizes suggests. That and coming in where I launched was a doddle too, even
with the wind switching more offshore.
All in all, I think I prefer the 10'5 for my own windsurfing but the 11'5
is the one that fits the SUP category too, certainly for someone of my
weight ... the 10'5 would be a bit wobbly underfoot in SUP mode.
I've just got to give these Kona's a go at somewhere like Camber with some
waves .... I think the surfing element will really be the clincher, but so
far the freeride ability has impressed, and if TOW is important, these will
prove really applicable.
The good news is that I feel the urge to do more 'testing' ..... and
obviously anyone wanting a go for themselves only has to ask.
